KAANAPALI - The Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa has one of the 10 best hotel pools in the world, according to TripAdvisor, an online site that features tips and reviews from travelers worldwide.
The Sheraton Maui "provides the ultimate Hawaii experience with its freshwater swimming lagoon that meanders through tropical gardens, under wooden bridges and into an outdoor hot tub amidst lava rock formations and waterfalls," according to the website.
TripAdvisor quoted one traveler as saying that the Sheraton's pool "was clean with great views everywhere you turned."
Other resorts included in the top-10 list, which was not ranked, were: the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek in Orlando, Fla.; the Hansar Samui Resort in Bophut, Thailand; the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas; the Valentin Imperial Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico; the Vencia Hotel in Mykonos Town, Greece; the Hard Rock Hotel Bali in Kuta, Bali; the Riviera Resort & Spa in Palm Springs, Calif.; the Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island in Fiji; and the Los Suenos Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort in Jaco, Costa Rica.
Judging by the top-10 list, an old-fashioned oval or rectangular pool just doesn't cut it these days among the elite of hotel pools. The top pools feature design amenities such as a "beautiful lagoon-style, zero-entry swimming pool that gently snakes through the grounds" (Hilton Orlando) and an "oversized infinity edge saltwater pool just steps from the stunning turquoise ocean" (Hansar Samui).
Karen Drake, senior director of communications for TripAdvisor, said that the list "highlights some of the most amazing hotel pools in the U.S. and the world."
