Coaches pick Rainbows to finish third in WAC

DENVER - The University of Hawaii baseball team was picked to finish third in the preseason Western Athletic Conference coaches poll released Wednesday.

Fresno State, the 2011 co-regular season champions with the Rainbows, was picked to finish first with 33 points. San Jose State was second with 31 points, followed by UH (29), Nevada and New Mexico State (17), Louisiana Tech (14) and Sacramento State (six).

Four UH players were named to the preseason all-WAC team - pitcher Matt Sisto, outfielder Breland Almadova, shortstop Piikea Kitamura and third baseman Collin Bennett.

The Rainbows open the season next week with a four-game series against Oregon, Feb. 17-20 at Les Murakami Stadium.
