Maui High, Seabury fall in first round

HONOLULU - The Maui High School and Seabury Hall girls basketball teams lost by a combined 61 points in the opening round of the Hawaiian Airlines State Championships on Tuesday.

The Sabers (8-7), the Maui Interscholastic League Division I runners-up, got a team-high eight points from Patricia Batoon in a 53-24 loss to Kaiser at the McKinley gym.

Micaela Bitanga scored 14 points and Chandler Arce added 10 for the Cougars (13-3), who led 19-4 after one quarter and 28-8 at the half.

In the Division II tournament, Honokaa defeated the MIL champion Spartans 58-26 at Radford.

Tiana Camarillo led the Spartans (5-2) with 11 points. The Dragons (8-5) had four players score in double figures - Yvonne Daniels (13), Hunter Liftee (12), Shemika Frazier (11) and Precious Chong (11).

Maui High plays Kamehameha Kapalama in a consolation game today, while Seabury faces University.
