A Saigon Cafe in Wailuku will kick off Chinese New Year on Monday at 5:15 p.m. with lion dancers and more. Every table of diners having a meal will get a bonus of pork and egg stew that is simmered overnight in coconut juice, banana-wrapped mochi rice and pickled vegetables. Call 243-9560.
In addition, A Saigon Cafe will participate in Maui Mall's 13th annual Chinese New Year event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28. Its food booth will sell juicy roast ducks, spare ribs and chicken cutlets to the crowds.
Asian Star will be there, too, selling crispy chicken, green papaya salad and fried spring rolls. Royal Island Drive In will do chow mein, beef with broccoli, orange chicken, gau and jin doi, and Siu's Chinese Kitchen will make sweet and sour pork ribs, Chinese mochi donuts and chow mein.

A Saigon Cafe’s owner Jennifer Nguyen will be the guest chef at A Keiki’s Dream event on Super Bowl weekend and she’ll host a Chinese New Year celebration at her Wailuku restaurant as well as have a food booth at the Maui Mall’s annual Chinese event.
On Feb. 3, A Saigon Cafe's owner Jennifer Nguyen will be the featured chef at A Keiki's Dream benefit at the home of Mark and Jo Beauchamp in Wailuku.
"We hope to have two chef stations, so we can prepare some of the dishes on-site," says Nguyen. "The menu includes green papaya salad with tofu, fried spring rolls, fried chicken wings, spicy ahi poke, chicken lemongrass, New York steak, chow funn and our famous garden-party shrimp.
