Rainbow Wahine lose in final WAC opener

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Hawaii women's basketball team began its final Western Athletic Conference season with an 83-67 loss to San Jose State on Saturday.

Sydney Haydel scored 17 points for the Rainbow Wahine (5-11). Breanna Arbuckle scored 11 points but committed six turnovers, and Vicky Tagalicod added 10 points.

Kamilah Jackson had eight points and 13 rebounds for UH. Kalei Adolpho of Molokai had four points, four rebounds, two assists and four turnovers before fouling out.

The Rainbow Wahine were 4-for-23 from 3-point range, and shot 36.2 percent from the field overall.

The Spartans (6-10), who were also playing their WAC opener, got 22 points and 12 rebounds from Brittany Johnson. Sara Plavljanin had 19 points, six assists and three steals, Ta'Rea Cunnigan scored 14 points and Brea Matthews added 12.

Hawaii's next game is at home against Louisiana Tech on Thursday.
