Warriors open season with sweep of Tritons

HONOLULU - Johann Timmer had a team-high nine kills and seven digs as the 11th-ranked University of Hawaii men's volleyball team opened the season with a

25-16, 25-20, 25-20 victory over UC San Diego in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match Thursday night at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Timmer, a freshman from New Zealand, was one of many newcomers to make an impact in their first match for the Warriors. Fellow freshman JP Marks had eight kills and three aces, and UC Irvine transfer Nick West added six kills.

Senior Steven Hunt contributed eight kills, six digs and four blocks, and Sam Biscaro had 28 assists for UH.

Chris Andrulis led the Tritons, also playing their season opener, with six kills.

The teams play again today.
