Thanksgiving eve service to be held
KAHULUI - Emmanuel Lutheran Church will be holding a Thanksgiving eve service on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m.
In the coming weeks, church members will be preparing for the season of Advent as Christmas nears. On Wednesdays Nov. 30 and Dec.7 and 14, there will be a soup supper at 5:30 p.m. and an Advent workshop service at 6:30 p.m.

KAHULUI - The Christian Science Church in Kahului will continue a tradition spanning more than 50 years and hold a Thanksgiving service on Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m.
There will be hymns of praise, testimonies of gratitude from the congregation and a sermon from the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science.
Child care will be available.
The Maui church is one of seven Christian Science churches statewide that will join others around the world holding Thanksgiving Day services. The Maui church began this tradition first as an informal group, then as a society and now as a church, a news release said.

Joint Thanksgiving gathering to be held
KIHEI - Kihei Lutheran Church and the Kihei Tongan United Methodist Mission will be holding a joint Thanksgiving Day worship service Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. at Kihei Lutheran.
The service will include communion, the singing of the anthem "Great is Thy Faithfulness" by the men's quartet 4-Given and a choir anthem by the Methodist congregation's choir.
At noon, the congregations will gather for a potluck luau.
The day's activities conclude with the decorating of the worship area for the Advent/Christmas season, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

KAHULUI - Maui Evangelical Church will be holding a Thanksgiving Sunday service this Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m.
The Rev. Walter Baloaloa will be sharing the message "Being Grateful."

Church open to plein air artists
MAKAWAO - Plein air artists are being invited to paint the Makawao Union Church on Wednesday, part of the church's 150 year anniversary activities.
The Art Event in Thanksgiving will be held at 8 a.m. at the church, 1445 Baldwin Ave., between Paia and Makawao.
Artists may paint the church, grounds and views surrounding the church. Completed paintings will be shown daily in the church narthex through the Christmas holidays.
Collectors and visitors are invited to share pastries and coffee with the artists in the community hall adjacent to the church from 8 to 9 a.m. that day.

Women study on Bible Fridays
WAILUKU - The women of Maui Church of Christ are studying the book of Ephesians at Friday Bible study, beginning at noon today.
