For 18 years now, Marco's Grill & Deli in Kahului has served plump and juicy clams in aromatic broth, chicken parmigiano and its signature vodka rigatoni in a rich and creamy pink sauce.

Owner Marco Defanis will run specials once in a while, such as the breakfast burrito packed with scrambled eggs, onions, bell peppers, cheese and house-made salsa in warm tortilla wraps.

Or the popular pasta puttanesca with tomato sauce over linguine with garlic, onions, mushrooms, olives, capers and anchovies.

"Some of the specials were so good, we just had to make them permanent," he says. "So we've made a special menu page with our new items. They're at lower price points so it's easy for people to come and check them out. We've also added grilled fresh salmon with a side of cucumber salad, blue cheese wedge and more."

On a recent trip to Las Vegas, Marco got enamored with a top restaurant pupu there called pigs in the blanket. But not like what you may envision.

"These pigs in the blankets are little hot dogs that are baked in fresh bread with sides of barbecue sauce, mustard and relish. They are awesome!"

Kids just gobble up these finger-food little pigs, eight on a plate, served with smoky house ketchup. Kids and adults alike are raving about the new Italian and Mexican flatbreads and wraps with lettuces packed with veggies, chicken Caesar and tuna.

The new Italian sausage lasagne is a hearty plate full of lasagne noodles, ricotta cheese, sausage and marinara sauce with creamy mozzarella. Lunch and dinner items are both available daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

"Our biggest sellers on the new menu page so far are the sausage lasagne and the breakfast burrito," says General Manager Sandy Szymanski. "But personally, I like the grilled salmon and cucumber salad."

Since it's situated conveniently near all of the big-box stores, Marco's is perfect for meeting with friends between holiday and other shopping.

"We offer gift certificates that don't expire," Szymanski says. "You can do your holiday parties here. We also sell Maui Coffee Roasters coffee in 1-pound foil bags, ground or whole bean. The flavor is Marco's blend with chocolate, macadamia nut and hazelnut. And, don 't forget to try our house-made tiramisu!" Call 877-4446.
