Grand Wailea’s rare wine event to kick off Maui Calls fundraiser

July 28, 2011
The Maui News

To kick off Maui Calls fundraiser next month at Maui Arts & Cultural Center, Grand Wailea will uncork a rare dinner featuring winemaker Heidi Peterson-Barrett on Wednesday, Aug. 10, at its signature restaurant, Humuhumunukunukuapua'a.

How rare is it to get her to travel on behalf of her own wines? When Alan Jahns of JMD Beverages called Peterson-Barrett's partner, he said,?" Well, Alan, it's as rare as wagyu sashimi!"

Pegged the " first lady of wine," Peterson-Barrett is of Screaming Eagle fame and creator of other "cult cabs" such as Dalle Valle, Grace Family, David Arthur and Paradigm.

“The First Lady of Wine,” Heidi Peterson-Barrett, will be at Grand Wailea on Wednesday, Aug. 10, for a special feast — a treat for Hawaii wine lovers.

"The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m." says Jahns. "The hotel's executive chef, Eric Faivre, has created an incredible five-course menu to pair with seven of her wines. We'll pour her own cult cabernet sauvignons such as La Sirena, Amuse Bouche and Au Sommet - priced from $125 to $350 per bottle - if you can find them."

There will also be a silent auction. Dinner costs $295 per person plus tax and 18 percent gratuity. Proceeds all go to the MACC. Call 875-1234, ext. 4900 (which is restaurant reservations).
