HONOLULU (AP) - The military says a Hawaii-based Army medic from Virginia was killed in Afghanistan after his unit was attacked by enemy forces with small-arms fire.
The Defense Department said Thursday that Spc. Levi E. Nuncio, of Harrisonburg, Va., died of wounds sustained in the attack in Kunar province. The 24-year-old joined the Army in 2009. This was his first deployment.
Nuncio was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team. The unit is part of the 25th Infantry Division based at Schofield Barracks on Oahu.
