KAHULUI - University of Hawaii Maui College has announced psychology student Chelsey Ham as Student Employee of the Year.
Ham, who works in the Counseling Department, is the student employee who demonstrated both excellence in her job performance as well as contributing positively to her work environment, according to a UH-Maui College news release.
UH-Maui College gave Ham a $500 gift certificate to the UH Bookstore. She also will have her name engraved on the perpetual Student Employee of the Year plaque. Meanwhile, Brenda Starcher from the Student Life Department was named the runner-up and given $75 for the bookstore.
Ham said it was a great honor to be chosen. It has been an exciting three years of experience working for the Counseling Department, she said.
"The department has provided me with valuable skills and knowledge in furthering my educational and career goals in pursing my bachelor's degree," Ham said.
The program is a "national celebration" to honor and recognize the important role that student assistants play on college campuses, UH-Maui College officials said.
The award is the result of a collaboration among UH-Maui College's Financial Aid Office, Student Life Department and the Associated Students of UH-Maui College group.
School supervisors nominated student employees for the honor, according to the release. In all, they endorsed 29 student employees for the award, and each nominee will receive a bookstore gift card and a certificate of appreciation.
