Dinner event to focus on sabbath
KIHEI - Members of Maui's Jewish community will gather on March 4 at the Beit Shalom Synagogue to teach people about the beauty and significance of the Jewish sabbath.
The fourth of the 10 commandments is to observe the sabbath from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, a time for meditation, prayers, good food and a break from all acts of creation.
The March 4 event begins with services at 6 p.m., with a four-course dinner with sacramental wine to follow around 7:30 p.m. The meal costs $36 per person.

The synagogue is at 634 Alulike St. in Kihei.

WAILUKU - Oahu resident Yvonne Solis will preach at a 6 p.m. Sunday worship service at the Door of Faith Church.

UH-Manoa Chamber Singers to perform
MAKAWAO - The University of Hawaii-Manoa Chamber Singers will perform a free concert at Makawao Union Church.
Titled "The Road Home," the concert will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the church sanctuary at 1445 Baldwin Ave. The concert is open to the public.

Rummage sale set for Saturday
KAHULUI - The Tenrikyo Maui Church will hold a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, with proceeds designated toward a church convention on Oahu over the Memorial Day weekend.
The sale will be on the church grounds at 649 S. Kamehameha Ave.

Lenten retreat begins March 22
MAKAWAO - St. Joseph Church will host a lenten retreat from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 22 and 23 at the church's gymnasium.
