WAIPAHU, Oahu - The Maui United under-12 boys red team successfully defended its title in the Oahu President's Day Cup on Monday at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
Angelo Deloso-Flocco scored in the third minute of the championship match and Noa Harrisson added a second tally in the 47th as Maui United defeated Honolulu Rush Premier 2-0 to finish the tournament at 6-0-0.
Greg Sutton scored the lone goal in the 39th minute to lead Maui United to a 1-0 victory over the Honolulu Rush B team in the semifinals earlier in the day.
Keeper Dante Perez posted both shutouts for Maui United, which outcored its opponents 17-2 in six games, including five shutouts, throughout the three-day tournament.
Deloso-Flocco scored six goals overall, Harrisson had five and Sutton delivered three.
The red team is comprised of Kaisyn Lee, Arrio Rushnak, Taylor Fernandez, Caleb SooHoo, Peirce Williams, Justin Arcano, Paytin Ayau, Keoni Rosete, Kylen Zolotow, Bernie Teshima, Kazu Kuge, Harrisson, Perez, Sutton and Deloso-Flocco.
Coach Brent Nunes said his defense - made up of Rosete, Kuge, Lee and SooHoo - was outstanding, "putting on an unreal display of defensive work."
The Maui United under-12 boys white team lost 5-2 to Honolulu Rush Premier in the semifinals, finishing the tournament in third place with a record of 4-1-0.
In the under-9 division, the Maui United boys suffered a 3-1 semifinal setback to the Honolulu Bulls, also finishing third with a record of 4-1-0.
