January 14, 2011
The Maui News

KIHEI - The Jewish Congregation of Maui will celebrate the Tu B'Shvat holiday from 9:30 a.m. to noon Sunday at 634 Alulike St. in Kihei.

The congregation's goal is to plant a learning garden to further the Jewish education of young members and the community.

The congregation urges participants to wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, gloves, hats and sunscreen. Water and light refreshments will be provided.

Participants are asked to bring equipment and tools, if available. A potluck will be held after the event. Organizers request vegetarian and/or dairy items only.

Anyone wanting to sponsor or support the program, can make checks payable to the Jewish Congregation of Maui.

Tu B'Shvat is the Jewish new year of the trees, an event celebrated in midwinter.

Primarily an agricultural holiday, the holiday occurs on the 15th day of the month of Shvat.
