Fundraiser to help ministry for children
WAILUKU - A fundraiser Saturday will benefit the Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree Ministry that serves children of Maui Community Correctional Center inmates.
Baked goods, other food, books, tools, clothes and other items will be sold from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Praise Gospel Fellowship at 647 Waiehu Beach Road.

KIHEI - On Yom Kippur, starting at sundown Sept. 17, Jews worldwide repent and abstain from eating, drinking and all bodily pleasures.
The Jewish Congregation of Maui convenes at the Beit Shalom Synagogue at 634 Alulike St. to mark its "festival days" of Shabbat Shuvah and Yom Kippur with the following services:
6:30 this evening, Shabbat Shuvah.
10 a.m. Saturday, Shabbat Shuvah.
5:30 p.m. Sept. 17, doors open; 5:45 p.m., community singing; 6 p.m., Erev Yom Kippur; 6:30 p.m., Kol Nidre.
8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 18, Yom Kippur; 1 to 4 p.m., break; 4 p.m., Mincha; 5 p.m., Yizkor; 6:15 p.m., Neila; 7 p.m., Havdalah. A light breakfast meal will be provided.
9:30 a.m. to noon Sept. 19, community Sukkah building and decorating party.

Alan Cohen to speak at free event
WAILUKU - "Switched at Birth" will be the message of Alan Cohen at 10 a.m. Saturday at Unity Church of Maui, 483 S. High St. in Wailuku.
The free event will showcase Cohen, who "brings a warm blend of wisdom, intimacy, humor and vision to the path of personal, professional and spiritual growth," a news release said.

KAHULUI - Kahului Baptist Church will host a "Special Mission Night" at 7 o'clock Wednesday with guest speaker Marlene Rupp, a missionary who has ministered to the people of Darfur, Africa.
