KAHULUI - Lee and Tanya Barbero, of Kahului, recently were named new area leaders for the Hawaii Worldwide Marriage Encounter.
They succeed Brian and Claudine Perry, of Wailuku, the first isle couple to lead the Worldwide Marriage Encounter Section 12. The latter community encompasses northern and central California, northern Nevada, Hawaii, Guam, Saipan and Okinawa.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter's mission is to renew the church and change the world by helping couples and priests have fully intimate and responsible relationships, a press release said.

Couples of all faiths may participate in the Marriage Encounter to enhance their communication skills and relationships.
Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekends are set from Aug. 20 to 22 at Christ the King Church in Kahului (couples return home nightly), and from Sept. 10 to 12 at the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel (for couples statewide).
