Back to School Mass July 30

WAILUKU - St. Anthony Church will offer a Back to School Mass at 5 p.m. July 30 for high school students from Maui Catholic parishes.

The guest presenter will be Joe Melendrez, a Christian rapper from California, who will present excerpts from his latest release, "Rosary Rap."

Recent graduates and college students also are encouraged to attend.

A free spaghetti dinner and fellowship gathering will follow in Marian Hall, the cafeteria at St. Anthony School.

The evening, intended as a spiritual springboard into a new school year, is a project of the church's Living in Faith Experience team.

Students planning to attend are asked to contact youth moderator Art Fillazar; so a count for the dinner can be made. Send e-mail to saparishlifeteam@yahoo.com by July 25.

School supplies to be distributed

WAILUKU - One hundred back-to-school supply packets will be distributed to children at the Kahekili Terrace Housing complex at 4 p.m. Thursday in the vicinity of Holowai Place, according to an announcement.

The supplies will be given away on a first-come, first-served basis by the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church Women and Youth Group and the Queen Emma Athletic Club.

Good Shepherd Church is a designated Jubilee Center of the Episcopal Church on Maui. The church's mission is to help provide basic human needs, offer free social services and programs, and build a just society based on Christ's commandment to feed the poor, help the orphan and widow, greet the stranger and visit the imprisoned.

Vacation Bible school offered

KAHULUI - Kahului Baptist Church is hosting a vacation Bible school for keiki entering kindergarten through 9th grade.

The weeklong program runs from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through July 23.

'Movie Under the Stars' Saturday

PUKALANI - Grace Church will host "Movie Under the Stars" with a showing of the "Star Wars" movie at 7 p.m. Saturday.

It is the first part of the Star Wars trilogy that will continue on July 24 and 31.

Moviegoers should bring lawn chairs and blankets to watch the movie outside on the church grounds. Refreshments will be sold. Admission is free.
