'Hawaiian Sunday' service scheduled
MAKAWAO - A "Hawaiian Sunday" service will feature a performance of sacred hula in place of a sermon at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Makawao Union Church.
The hula will be presented by members of Hula Halau 'O Keaunui, led by kumu hula Alexa Keaunui Vaught.
Vaught, who has danced since she was a girl in Lahaina, was guided by renowned kumu hula Auntie Emma Sharp. Vaught danced professionally before starting her own halau more than 30 years ago.

Unchartered Water Sports Camp offered
KULA - Waipuna Chapel will offer its Unchartered Water Sports Camp from 3 to 6 p.m. daily next week.
This is for children ages 6 through 12, and includes cheerleading, soccer and basketball on the lower field behind the Kula Fire Station.
The cost is $45, which includes T-shirt and snacks. For more information, call the Waipuna Chapel office, 878-6343.

Paia O-bon festival begins today
PAIA - The Mantokuji Soto Mission of Paia will hold its annual O-bon festival beginning with a service at 6 p.m. and dancing at 8 p.m. today and Saturday.
The event will feature taiko performances by Maui Taiko today, Zenshin Daiko on Saturday and Mantokuji on both nights. Food also will be available, including chow fun, shave ice, bento, donuts, chili rice, shiso rice and hot dogs.
The mission is at 253 Hana Highway, across from the Paia Community Center.
