King's Cathedral celebrating 30 years
KAHULUI - The 30th anniversary of the King's Cathedral ministry is being celebrated today through Sunday at the church at 777 Mokulele Highway.
There will be a worship service at 7 tonight.
On Saturday, the Hawaii Executive Prayer Breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. will join with mayors, mayoral candidates and Gov. Linda Lingle to pray for the island and the state. Tickets at $10 each are available at King's Cathedral.
From noon to 7 p.m., there will be a hoolaulea with free entertainment and activities, and food for purchase. Hula halau from around the state will dance, and 'Ekoku and Richard Ho'opi'i will perform.
On Sunday, there will be services at 6, 8:30 and 11 a.m., with a free luau following the 6 and 8:30 a.m. services.
In the evening, at 6, there will be a service with Benny Hinn.

'Buddha's Birthday' event Saturday
PAIA - The Maui Tibetan Buddhist Dharma Center will celebrate "Buddha's Birthday" Saturday.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the Great Paia Lha Bab Peace Stupa on Baldwin Avenue.
Ceremonies will include traditional prayers and offerings, and the Venerable Lama Gyaltsen will lead services. The Peace Stupa will be decorated with lights as a reminder of wishes for world peace and of the Buddha's teaching of nonviolence, love and compassion.
Other events are planned in June to commemorate Sagadawa, the fourth lunar month. Traditionally on the full moon day, about June 26 this year, Tibetan Buddhists honor Buddha's birth, death and attainment of nirvana.

Service to celebrate the dead planned
MAKENA - A nondenominational service to celebrate the lives of persons who died over the past year will be sponsored by Hospice Maui at 9 a.m. Monday at Keawala'i Congregational Church.
Anyone who lost a loved one, whether Hospice Maui was involved or not, is invited. There will be music, poems and readings by hospice volunteers and prayers led by ministers of different religions. Names of the dead will be read, and doves will be released.
Light refreshments and talk story will follow.

Special outdoor service to be held
KAHULUI - Emmanuel Lutheran Church will hold a special service this weekend at its new property in Waikapu. A Fifth Sunday outdoor service will begin at 10 a.m. Look for a tent and several storage containers at a gated site on Waiale Road between Kuikahi Drive and Waiko Road, Pastor Joshua Schneider said.
The church will not hold regular services Sunday.

Free Bible school begins June 7
KAHULUI - Ala Lani United Methodist Church will hold a weeklong Vacation Bible School called "Praise Party" for 3 years old to 6th-graders.
The free program will run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. daily June 7 to 11 at Ala Lani Church, 50 S. Papa Ave. in Kahului. The Praise Party program will feature Bible lessons, arts and crafts, games, skits, songs, dance and other special activities.

Sale to benefit camp, youth trip
KAHULUI - Ala Lani United Methodist Church is holding a rummage sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday to raise money for Camp Mekokiko and its 2011 youth trip.
Available for sale in the church's Founders Hall will be family clothing, furniture, books, house and kitchen items and used air conditioners.
The church is at 50 S. Papa Ave., near Kaahumanu Avenue.

Prophetic workshop to be held June 5
KAHULUI - Grace Bible Church will host a prophetic workshop from 9 a.m. to noon June 5.
Bible teacher Kevin Connors will lead the workshop.

Jewish mysticism workshops offered
MAKAWAO - Daylong workshops on Jewish mysticism, called cabala, will be given by Rabbi Yitzchak Schwartz of Israel from June 7 to 9.
The workshops will be given from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day in the Yoga Room of the Banyan Tree Bed and Breakfast Inn at 3625 Baldwin Ave. in Makawao.
The cost for the workshops is $95 per day or $249 for all three days. Seniors and students pay $213.
