KAHULUI - Kahului Baptist Church will celebrate its 65th anniversary as an established congregation at 10:15 a.m. Sunday.
The Rev. Stanley Shiroma of Oahu will be the guest speaker. He served as pastor at Kahului Baptist Church in 1970 and at Pukalani Baptist Church from 1973 to 1980. He went on to be pastor at Waianae Baptist Church from 1980 to 2002, when he retired.
A special meal will be held after the service in the church social hall.
Kahului Baptist established five Maui missions at Lahaina, Pukalani, Wailuku (now known as Valley Isle Fellowship) and Maui Philippine Baptist churches.
A retired teacher as well as pastor, Shiroma grew up in Huelo, graduated from Baldwin High School and spent his young adult years as a farmer, tending 17 acres of pineapple and other crops on the slopes of Kula.
He received a bachelor of arts degree in comparative religion from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1967.
