Da Kidney Da Kind Day set for Saturday

WAILUKU - The fifth annual Da Kidney Da Kine Day will be held Saturday.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Queen Ka'ahumanu Center, and will feature entertainment, kidney disease screenings, a health fair, exhibits on organ donations and transplants, a keiki corner and prize drawings.

The Maui office of the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaii organizes the event. For more information, call 986-1900.

Kahului Hongwanji to hold Spring Bazaar

KAHULUI - The Kahului Hongwanji annual Spring Bazaar will be held from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday on the temple grounds, 291 S. Puunene Ave.

Food items for sale will include sushi, chow fun, teriyaki-meat plate lunch, chili, Spam musubi, hot dogs, cookies and other baked goods. There will be plants, fresh vegetables, fruits, cut flowers, a silent auction, a country store and rummage items.

LBN group elects new board of directors

LAHAINA - The Lahaina Bypass Now group, dedicated to solving West Maui transportation issues, recently elected new board of directors.

They are Bob Pure, president; Chad Fukunaga, vice president; David Ferguson, treasurer; and Stacie Thorlakson, secretary and director of marketing and communication.

Also selected as board members are Rory Frampton, Lori Sablas, Don Lehman and Harold Hyman.

LBN was founded in March 2006 and focuses on West Maui transportation needs, including roadways, buses, bikeways and walkways.

Enterprise gives $19K to Maui United Way

KAHULUI - Enterprise Holdings has presented a contribution of $19,090 to the Maui United Way, representing employee contributions and a corporate match.

In the check delivery at the Enterprise rental car location at Kahului Airport, City Manager Thomas Tang said, "We are very proud of our Maui team of over 200 employees and their continued involvement and contributions to Maui United Way in 2010."

Surfrider names new executive committee

KIHEI - The Surfrider Foundation Maui Chapter announced its new executive committee at a "Protect and Surf Rally" earlier this month.

The executive committee includes Lucienne de Naie, Les Potts, Kimo Clark, Hannah Bernard and Chairman Tim Lara.

Lara said the group is refocusing on its mission and core values.

"There is a new direction, and a lot of excitement and energy within and around our Maui Chapter," he said.

Upcoming events include:

* "Blue Aina" reef and beach cleanup April 11 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ukumehame Beach Park; reservations are required at (808) 333-7368.

* Fundraiser at Flatbread Co. at 5 p.m. April 20, featuring a silent auction, raffle and live music.
