‘Birthday of the trees’. About 30 members of the Jewish Congregation of Maui visited the D.T. Fleming Arboretum on Jan. 31 and celebrated Tu B’Shvat, or “the birthday of the trees.” Tu B’Shvat in Israel marks the return of leaves to a tree from its winter hibernation. Five trees were planted under the guidance of Martha Vockrodt-Moran of the Friends of the Fleming Arboretum. Shown during the planting, which was done with a blessing by Rabbi David Glickman, are (from left) Dania Katz, Orit Stamker, Aharon Le Fevre, Zoe Wenner and Mitch Berman. The conservation and educational projects at the arboretum help preserve and perpetuate Hawaii’s cultural and natural resources.
The performance is free, and the public is invited.
