Yard sale to benefit Mexico trip
WAILUKU - A yard sale to raise money for members of the Valley Isle Fellowship to travel to Mexico will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church, 473 S. High St. in Wailuku.
Church members plan to join Compassion International's Mexico Sponsors Tour.
Items for sale Saturday will include plants, cuttings, baked goods, modular office furniture and gifts.

Masquerade party set for Sunday
PAIA - The Maui Tibetan Buddhist Center will hold a Christmas Masquerade benefit party beginning at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Moana Bakery & Cafe in Paia.
Aloha welcome and pupu will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by a buffet at 7 p.m. featuring Indian and Tibetan cuisine.
Wear a favorite mask and formal attire. The event will offer musical entertainment and prizes for the best dressed.

Masses, caroling slated in Lahaina
LAHAINA - Maria Lanakila Church and the Sacred Hearts Mission have announced their holiday service schedules.
A Christmas vigil Mass will be held at both churches beginning at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Then, at Maria Lanakila, Christmas carols will be sung beginning at 11:30 p.m., followed by midnight Mass. (There will be no midnight Mass at the Sacred Hearts Mission.)
On Christmas Day, Maria Lanakila will hold Mass at 7, 9 and 11 a.m., while Sacred Hearts will celebrate Mass at 6:30 and 8:30 a.m.
Maria Lanakila will celebrate Mass at 7 a.m. New Year's Eve and at 8 a.m. New Year's Day.
Sacred Hearts will offer Mass on neither New Year's Eve nor New Year's Day.
Maria Lanakila is at 712 Wainee St. in Lahaina, and Sacred Hearts is on Office Road in Kapalua.

KAPALUA - Kumulani Chapel will offer Christmas Eve services Thursday.
Services will be at 6 and 8 p.m. at Hale Hokulani, the "barn," in Kapalua on Office Road. A birthday party for Jesus will be held in the new children's facility between 7:15 and 7:45 p.m.

Taize service planned for Monday
LAHAINA - Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church in Lahaina will celebrate Advent and the winter solstice by holding a Taize service of contemplative music, Scripture readings and meditation from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church at 561 Front St.
People also may walk the labyrinth.
Then, the church will hold Christmas services, as follows:

Three Christmas Eve services offered
KIHEI - Kihei Lutheran Church will offer three worship services on Christmas Eve, at 5, 7:30 and 10 p.m.
Each will include singing of carols, Holy Communion and special music. And each will conclude with the lighting of candles and singing "Silent Night" while a performance group presents the traditional Filipino "Pandanggo Sa Ilaw," or dance of light.

Kihei church offers holiday services
KIHEI - Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea will celebrate its Christmas eve service at 7:30 p.m. and its Christmas Day service at 9 a.m.

During the evening service, there will be an outdoor candlelight service with special music, traditional Christmas carols, Christmas hula and Holy Communion. Participants are asked to bring flashlights.

Candlelight service to be held Thursday
WAILEA - Keawala'i Congregational Church's annual Christmas Eve candlelight service will begin at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The evening, with a theme of "What Is This Light?" will feature members of the adult choir, Na Leo Nahenahe.
There will be seating for 800 people, who may bring a single stemmed flower or lei to be placed upon arrival on the two floral Christmas trees.
Parking adjacent to the church will be along the lower beach road and upper highway, with designated handicapped parking as well as seating.

Costumed pageant to kick off services
WAILUKU - Christmas Eve services at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church will begin at 6 p.m. with a costumed pageant and family Eucharist.
Children and youth will present the story of Christ's birth with readings and carols.
A carol sing will follow at 10:30 p.m. It will feature members of the Maui Brass Ensemble under the direction of Lisa Owen. A traditional Christmas Mass will follow at 11 p.m., with special music by the Senior Choir and the Maui Brass Ensemble.
A Christmas Day service will be held at 9 a.m. Guest organist Clayton Logue will provide music for the Eucharist.

Candlelight services planned in Kahului
KAHULUI - Kahului Union Church will have two candlelight Christmas Eve services.
A 6:30 p.m. service will feature bell and family choirs, and an 8:30 p.m. service will include music by the Praise Team and Chancel Choir. Both services will have hula, traditional carols and candle lighting.
The theme for the services will be: "And the word became flesh and dwelt among us." A different side of the Christ child from John's perspective will be presented.
A service for families who've lost loved ones in 2009 will be incorporated into the 8 a.m. service Dec. 27.

Two services set for Christmas Eve
MAKAWAO - Makawao Union Church will celebrate Christmas with two worship services on Christmas Eve.
The evening will start with a family service at 6, with favorite carols, the Gospel of Christ's birth and more recent stories of Christmas.
The 11 p.m. candlelight service of lessons and carols will be preceded at 10:30 with a performance by a string quartet. The Olinda Chorale will join the church choir, with Bob Wills as special vocalist. At the close of the service, the sanctuary will be lit only in candlelight for the singing of "Silent Night." The choir will rehearse at 9.

On New Year's Eve, a vigil Mass will begin at 6 p.m. And, on New Year's Day, Mass will be held at 9 a.m. only.

Candlelight service Thursday in Wailuku
WAILUKU - Valley Isle Fellowship will hold a candlelight service, "Celebrating Christ in Christmas," beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center, 398 Waena St. in Wailuku.
Pastor Bob Duffer will conclude his series of sermons on the Christmas theme.
Music, both traditional and contemporary, will be provided by the Valley Isle Fellowship Praise Team, which is led by Pastor Darren Sarmiento.
Also, the church's youth group will present an original drama written and directed by Sabrina Hamrick.
All are welcome, and gifts will be presented to those attending a Valley Isle Fellowship event for the first time.
