KAHULUI - Semifinals of the statewide Band Champ youth band talent competition will take place tonight at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center's Castle theater from 7 to 9:30.
Maui bands will be competing for a spot in the finals March 21 in Honolulu, vying there with bands from Oahu, Kauai and the Big Island for the top prize of $5,000, a recording contract for a single and a chance to open for a Tom Moffatt-produced concert.
The winning band in tonight's competition will receive a Washburn guitar.
Hosting tonight's event will be one of Hawaii's most popular new bands, Ten Feet, who will be performing songs from their latest album, "Everyday."
Admission at the door is $10.
