Forum shows three are unworthy of votes

POSTED: August 24, 2008

Today I watched the Kula Community Association candidate forum on Akaku: Maui Community Television. I want to thank the association for doing such a commendable job on this forum. However, I want to blast three candidates for their comments.

Joe Bertram, if you really believe that illegal drugs are not a problem on Maui - only prescription drugs? - then you don't know much about the 750 felons convicted last year and the 120 to 150 people in the Maui Drug Court program and the 100 people on the waiting list to enter that program.

It would nice if you would come out of your stupor and open your eyes to the "fiend" of Maui - meth. This is the single largest price tag our state and county incurs - emotionally, physically and fiscally. Good luck, Michael Gingerich.

Joe Souki, I wouldn't vote for any candidate who does a commercial for the Hawaii Stupidferry at a community forum on issues.

Kyle Yamashita, no money at all from your district to support you? Only from Oahu? Condescending behavior toward Summer Starr? You haven't even attended one meeting for your own resolution, HCR 358, calling for a study on alternatives to procurement.

Readers, if you want to see for yourself, you can call this forum up on Akaku.org using their "Program channel 54" feature.
