A&B’s donation for MEO transportation center recognized

POSTED: February 20, 2008

LAHAINA — Alexander & Baldwin has won Lahaina Bypass Now’s Way to Go! award for donating 5 acres of land to Maui Economic Opportunity (MEO), which plans to develop a transportation center in Puunene.

The land will enable MEO to consolidate its transportation operations at one location, which will include bus storage and a passenger transfer station, a maintenance facility, a bus-washing and fueling station and administration offices.

“The significant reduction in price for the 5 acres and the gift of another 5 acres by Alexander & Baldwin will allow Maui Economic Opportunity to build a permanent home for our transportation system,” said Sandy Baz, executive director of MEO.

“We are pleased to be a part of the formula that will allow Maui Economic Opportunity to continue to expand its transportation services to the people of Maui, as we truly care about our community,” said Grant Chun, vice president of A&B Properties.

Way to Go! also will give Chun a gift certificate from Maui Tacos as part of the recognition program.

Way to Go! recognizes community members and businesses that use or make a positive contribution to alternative forms of transportation. Nominations for the Way to Go! award series, which is sponsored by Maui Tacos, Penne Pasta and Mala Ocean Tavern, may be e-mailed to info@
