Akaka, Strazar backing Obama

HONOLULU — Sen. Daniel Akaka and another unpledged Hawaii superdelegate, Dolly Strazar, have endorsed Sen. Barack Obama for president.
That leaves Sen. Daniel Inouye the lone Hawaii member of Congress in the Hillary Rodham Clinton camp.
‘‘I have great hope that in his own way Barack Obama will achieve what I have been working to accomplish my entire congressional career — more tolerance and understanding, an appreciation for common goals and interests, rather than an emphasis on our differences,’’ Akaka said in a release from the Obama campaign in Chicago.
The campaign also announced the support of Strazar, Democratic national committeewoman from Hawaii who, like Akaka, had been undecided. Last week, Rep. Mazie Hirono endorsed the Hawaii-born candidate, and Rep. Neil Abercrombie has been a longtime Obama supporter. Obama won Hawaii’s February caucuses with 76 percent of the vote.
