Mayor urged to make dialysis center possible
A few days ago, I read a very powerful, pertinent letter to the editor from a person whose family has lived in Hana for many, many generations. The letter basically said, and I paraphrase, we can put a man on the moon, and we can send the Voyager to Mars, but how come we cannot make right in Hana and open dialysis services, especially when all the components are in place? Hana Health has taken the “community” out of its original name. That is really disrespectful and unhealthy. Why can’t the decision be made to turn a county-owned residence over to Hui Laulima O Hana? I hope Mayor Charmaine Tavares’ family roots send her a sign. I know her bloodline is in Hana and her dad worked with my grandfather as fellow police officers and servants to the community. I ask her to please ask her naau and spiritual intuition to do what is correct and of service to fellow human beings. There are people dying on her watch.
