Akoni Arriaga, Baldwin graduate, on MLB draft list

June 6, 2014 - Robert Collias
I talked to Akoni Arriaga on the phone Thursday after I saw his name on the Hawaii prospects list for the ongoing Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft (if all the names don't come up on this link click on the "Show Undrafted" box).

Arriaga was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 35th round last year, but opted to attend Yavapai Junior College in Arizona instead.

Arriaga told me on the phone he does not expect to be drafted this year, but appearing on the Hawaii prospect list is usually a good indicator that a player is a strong candidate to have his name called.

Recent Molokai High graduate David Rapanot is not listed among the Hawaii prospects, but several sources have told me he is a draft candidate.

Waiakea High School's Kodi Medeiros went with the 12th overall pick Thursday to the Milwaukee Brewers. As a sophomore, Medeiros pitched a no-hitter against Baldwin in the 2012 state championship game — he also played in the Maui High Invitational in February of this year.
