Baldwin-Maui High baseball: Sabers win 5-2, force championship game

May 5, 2014 - Robert Collias
UPDATE: The Sabers scored the game's first run in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by No. 8 hitter Dustin Kokubun. Baldwin scored twice two in the bottom of the sixth before Maui High scored four in the top of the seventh for a 5-2 win. The same two teams will now meet for the overall MIL pennant at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Baldwin started Joshua Nobriga (2-0) on the mound, while Maui High went with Jacob Tiu (3-1) in the MIL tournament championship game that is underway at Maehara Stadium. Both are in command so far.

The Bears are 13-0 in MIL play and would clinch the overall title with a win tonight or tomorrow in a winner-take-all championship playoff.

The Sabers are 10-3 -- all three losses to Baldwin -- and must win twice to claim the pennant.

Both teams have clinched state berths.

I will update the score as I can -- the game is also on ESPN Radio Maui, 900 AM.
