St. Anthony beats Seabury Hall in D-II baseball opener
March 30, 2014 - Robert Collias
The headline in your paper this morning about this game is a mistake — it has been fixed online, but yes, we commit errors once in a while — however, the St. Anthony High School baseball team finally got on the field and beat Seabury Hall, 8-5, at the Lahaina Rec Center on Saturday.
The teams' opening series had been postponed a week when a trainer wasn't available last weekend and by rain on Friday.
“There was so many emotions going on: Business, ready to go, just had to keep the emotions in check,” St. Anthony senior right-hander Nick Asuncion said of finally playing a game.
Asuncion made the most of it. Here is the start of my story:
LAHAINA - Nick Asuncion was ready to play.
After the start of the St. Anthony High School baseball team's season was delayed a week - a trainer was not available for the opening series and Friday's game was rained out - the senior right-hander struck out 10 batters over four hitless innings in an 8-5 win over Seabury Hall on Saturday at the Lahaina Recreation Center field.
Asuncion twice fanned five batters in a row in the Maui Interscholastic League opener for both teams.
"My fastball was just going accurate - in and out - and trying to keep them thinking inside and out," said Asuncion, who was also 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
