Isagawa finishes with a flurry to help Oregon to tournament title
March 6, 2014 - Robert Collias
It is not often when University of Oregon junior Cassy Isagawa, a 2011 Baldwin graduate, is not the top finisher for the Ducks women's golf team.
She finished tied for fifth at even-par 216 — and was 4-under par on her final eight holes —and helped 20th-ranked Oregon win the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday. Oregon freshman Cathleen Santoso finished in a tie for first.
This excerpt is from goducks.com, the school's athletic website:
"Playing her final eight holes at four-under par, junior Cassy Isagawa played a key role in UO’s team win down the stretch. She fired a 54-hole score of 216 (E) to tie for fifth – her 10th career top five finish. Isagawa carded rounds of 73 (+1), 74 (+2) and 69 (-3).
Isagawa opened with nine straight pars on the front nine before making bogey on the 10th hole. She responded with consecutive birdies on holes No. 11 and 12 to get below par. With the team race neck-and-neck with UC Davis, Isagawa birdied the par-four 17th and par-five 18th holes to card a 69 (-3).
“It was fun seeing everyone’s body language and encouragement out there,” said Isagawa. “I think our team chemistry is what finally helped us get the win in the end.”
