BYUH, HPU volleyball match March 15 at King Kekaulike
February 23, 2014 - Robert Collias
Ran into Al Paschoal at the King Kekaulike preseason baseball tournament Saturday and he confirmed a story he told me about a few weeks ago — a spring exhibition volleyball match between BYU-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific is set for March 15 at King Kekaulike gym.
"Ever since we brought Nebraska and Hawaii down a couple years ago we have been trying to get something going," Paschoal said. "BYUH lost in the (NCAA) Division II championship game last year."
Paschoal said that there is plenty of volleyball talent on Maui.
"Every girl grows up in Hawaii wanting to play for UH, but that's the pinnacle," he said. "Very few actually attain that, but in Division II there are so many good teams. Add Chaminade and UH Hilo with Tino Reyes over there, there are four quality (D-II) options for girls in the islands. You know, every parent here wants to be able to hop on a plane and watch their daughter play ball, too. You don't have to look very far."
