A request for information from a Washington state student
February 5, 2014 - Leah Sherman
In October, I posted two letters from students in Illinois wanting to learn more about Maui and the state of Hawaii.
These letters are not something that we have a place for in the print version of The Maui News. But my heart warms a little when I see them and I'd like to help out, so I'm publishing this on the blog.
Hopefully some others on Maui agree. The following was emailed to me:
“Hi.My name is Jenna M. I picked your state Hawaii for my fifth-grade state report.I love Hawaii so I thought it would be awesome to do the aloha state.I think Hawaii is so beautiful. Those are some reasons I picked this state.
“Can you please put my letter in the paper?I was wondering if your readers could actually help me out.We need to have some items to have on display. For our report in may.I was hoping to have some items like keychains, waterbottle with Hawaii logo, souvenirs, and even maybe a coconut.I Would feel real proud to have a grass skirt or T-shirt.And a little jar of sand. Also a old license plate would be great!Brochures would work too,any thing you would like to send would be great.
“I don't want all of you to go into any trouble though.Just do what you can. If you can do this i would get a really good grade.
“This will be a great experience for you and me.Thank you so much for reading my letter. We will need these items by April. Please send these to my school's address.
