Catching up with Kanekoa Texeira in Caribbean Series
January 30, 2014 - Robert Collias
Here is the start of a short story from sports editopr Brad Sherman that will be in Friday's paper:
Kanekoa Texeira of Kula is part of Puerto Rico's Indios de Mayaguez team that will play in the Caribbean Series, beginning Saturday in Margarita Island, Venezuela.
Texeira, who has played for the Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners in the major leagues, had a 0.69 ERA in 14 appearances, including one start, for Mayaguez during the Roberto Clemente League season. He did not have a decision. Texeira made three relief appearances in the league's championship series against Criollos de Caguas, allowing one run in three innings.
Texeira pitched for the Cincinnati Reds' Triple-A team, the Louisville Bats, in 2013, posting a 2.42 ERA with no decisions in 16 appearances, including two starts.
The Caribbean Series is for the champions of winter leagues in Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.
Here is a look at the roster for Texeira's Puerto Rico team. Here is a must-look — and I mean MUST — at Big Tex's latest numbers. And, finally, here is where to keep up with all of the Caribbean Series action.
