Fundraiser for Molokai, Lanai athletics on Jan. 29 on Oahu: Here's how y'all can help out
January 14, 2014 - Robert Collias
Molokai and Lanai high schools athletic departments have been struggling for travel funds forever, it seems, but this year is hitting the Pine Lads and Lasses, and Farmer extra hard since the "Save Our Sports" funds — a campaign spearheaded by Keith Amemiya when he was head of the HHSAA — are running dry.
But Amemiya and friends from the Downtown Athletic Club Hawaii are back to help.
On Jan. 29, at Murphy's Bar and Grill from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., the DACH board members — Amemiya, Peter Ho, Kalowena Komeiji, Duane Kurisu, Don Murphy, Ray Ono and Kurt Osaki — will host "Cheers for Molokai and Lanai High" to supplement the schools' projected shortfalls in travel funds.
The event will be fully hosted with heavy pupu and cocktails by Murphys's Bar and Grill and Hukilau. The night will feature special delicacies from Lanai and Molokai, including kulolo, bread, deer jerky and more.
Hawaiian Time and Brother Noland will perform.
There are three levels of sponsorship that are being sought, but any amount will be accepted.
— Champion Sponsor: $10,000 will bring recognition as a title sponsor in all public materials, 15 VIP tickets to the event, preferred seating in the VIP zone, and 10 prize drawing tickets.
— MVP Sponsor: $5,000 will deliver 10 VIP tickets to the event, preferred seating in the VIP zone and eight drawing tickets.
— Booster Sponsor: $2,500 is worth 10 tickets to the event and five drawing tickets.
Any donations can be sent to the Downtown Athletic Club Hawaii, c/o 1000 Bishop Street, Suite 610, Honolulu 96813.
