Free movie and free Elvis show
January 12, 2014 - Leah Sherman
If you are reading this on Sunday (Jan. 12) and looking for a last-minute activity for the entire family, I've got good news. Tonight's outdoor Starry Night Cinema at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center is free and showing “Ticket to Ride.”
The film starts at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m. Food vendors will be on site, including Donut Dynamite (their pastries at the Swap Meet give me a reason to get out of bed every Saturday).
A description of “Ticket to Ride” on the MACC's website says the film “explores the close relationship between humans and the vast natural environment, and the importance of being aware of your surroundings, as the best skiers and snowboarders take an action-packed journey across the globe.”
And if Monday-night entertainment is what you are seeking, Maui Theatre's new show, “Burn'n Love,” is offering free tickets to kamaaina (Hawaii ID required) for Monday's 8 p.m. show only. Call 856-7900 for more information. For every seat filled, "Burn'n Love" will donate $1 to the Maui Food Bank. This offer is not valid on prior ticket purchases and seating is limited.
The show, starring Darren Lee as the The King, launched last month and runs four days a week at the Lahaina theater. Regular-priced tickets start at $59.99, according to the show's website.
I caught a performance by Lee at the New Year's Resolution Run that I participated in a few weeks ago and he was really good. I'm planning to catch the show myself very soon, but unfortunately won't be able to take advantage of Monday's deal.
