Suzuki confirms one-year deal with Twins

December 20, 2013 - Robert Collias
We've had this breaking news item up for a couple hours, but sports editor Brad Sherman just finished talking with Kurt Suzuki, who confirmed his contract with the Minnesota Twins.

Suzuki's deal is reportedly for one year at $2.75 million.

"Minnesota always appealed to me," the Baldwin graduate told Sherman, the first in-state journalist to talk to Suzuki. "They have a great coaching staff, a great tradition."

For a 30-year-old catcher who hit .232 with five homers last season, while his once-mighty defensive prowess shrank to 8-for-65 runners thrown out, this could be a pivotal season for Suzuki.

"I’m just going out there, and I’m looking forward to getting the opportunity to play as much as I can and helping out," he said.
