November 8, 2013 - Robert Collias
Due to transmitter problems for KMVI 550 AM, tonight's Baldwin vs. Farrington Division I state tournament football game will be radio broadcast on sister station 900 AM.
I am at the stadium in a crowded press box -- the game will also be broadcast on OC16 television.
Sophomore Taje Akaka-Foster will start at quarterback for the Bears after throwing just eight passes in MIL play, completing half of them for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Akaka-Foster is part of a youth movement for the Bears that includes safety Anthony Kahoohanahano-Davis and several other Bears mentioned in my preview story in this morning's paper. Kahoohanohano-Davis has quite the family lineage.
Farrington comes here with heavy hearts after Dayne Ortiz was lost at sea Saturday -- the senior defensive back has not been found.
Farrington has lost all three of its previous state tournament appearances here, all to Baldwin in 1999, 2007 and 2011. The Bears are 5-1-1 all-time against the Governors.
Stay tuned to our front page for quarter-by-quarter updates.
