Final: Mission Viejo 49, Baldwin 20
August 31, 2013 - Robert Collias
The final quarter saw only saw only a 5-yard touchdown pass from Baldwin's Jeremiah Badillo to Chris Kazanecki, but the Bears played very tough against one of the best teams in California.
Junior Josiah Maglente-Tonu was impressive as the third Baldwin QB to start a game this season for the Bears (1-2). He was 17-for-36 for 166 yards with an interception and two touchdown passes to Kawela Kaeo-Mata. Badillo, a senior, also played well after a good game in a win last week over Maui High.
Badillo was 3-for-5 passing for 24 yards and a touchdown, scrambled three times for 49 yards, and caught a 3-yard pass from Maglnete-Tonu.
Maglente-Tonu caught the eye of veteran Mission Viejo coach Bob Johnson, who coached both of his sons into the NFL.
"I thought that kid looked really good, I liked him a lot," Johnson said of Maglente-Tonu. "I have coached a lot of quarterbacks, I think he's got a chance. He was a little rattled at times, but his first start, for crying out loud against us on defense, so it's good stuff."
