All four Mauians sticking around NFL teams so far

August 26, 2013 - Robert Collias
With the deadline to cut rosters to 75 players by Tuesday, all four Mauians in NFL camps appear safe, at least for now.

The New York Jets cut veteran receiver Braylon Edwards today to reach the 75-player limit, meaning DT Tevita Finau and LB JoJo Dickson have survived this round of cuts.

This blog from SNY.tv liked Finau's chances to make the squad in June. The same site on Saturday predicted that Dickson will make the practice squad, but Finau is nowhere to be found.

In Seattle, things keep looking better and better for LB John Lotulelei after two LBs were cut today.

In Oakland, no recent transactions involve Kaluka Maiava, the only Valley Islander who has seen active NFL duty on this list.

Maiava has been off the field with injury and the situation was still up in the air at coach Dennis Allen's press conference Sunday.

This from Raiders.com's transcript of the presser:

Q: Anything with Miles Burris or [Kaluka] Maiava?

Coach Allen: No, the status hasn’t changed on those. Kaluka again wasn’t able to go today. Miles Burris wasn’t able to go today. Obviously, we want to try to get those guys back as soon as possible, but we can’t put them out there until they’re ready to go.

NFL teams must cut to the 53-man roster limit on Saturday.

We will try to keep up with it all right here.
