Central East Maui falls 16-2 to SoCal champs
August 3, 2013 - Robert Collias
Although it is not posted on the West Region's website yet, the Central East Maui All-Stars lost their opener at the Little League West Regional 16-2 to Eastlake, Calif., the Southern California champions.
Maui managed just two hits, both in the final inning when it also scored both of its runs.
Eastlake's Grant Holman struck out nine consecutive CEM batters, beginning in the second inning.
The full rundown is available in Clay Fowler's story from the San Bernardino (Calif.) Sun. I do believe Fowler mixed up the managers names in the lead, unless both are named Kevin Constantino.
CEM plays its next game at 6 a.m. HST on Sunday, against Belmont-Redwood Shores, the Northern California champs who beat Chandler National South of Arizona, 8-0, in an earlier game today.
There is no radio coverage, but there are live scoring updates on the Sun's website.
CEM plays Mountain Ridge of Nevada on Monday at 2 p.m. and Chandler National South at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
The top four teams in the six-team regional advance to semifinals next Friday. The championship game with a berth to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., on the line will be on Saturday, Aug. 10.
