Kaluka Maiava injured in Raiders practice on Sunday
August 2, 2013 - Robert Collias
Baldwin graduate and current Oakland Raiders linebacker Kaluka Maiava pleaded not guilty through his lawyer on Thursday at Wailuku District Court to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from an incident in March at a Kihei bar.
On Sunday, at Raiders' practice in Napa, Calif., Maiava suffered an injury to his left foot that required crutches and a walking boot.
This from a notes story by Jerry McDonald of the Contra Costa Times posted Sunday afternoon:
Linebackers Sio Moore and Kaluka Maiava joined Miles Burris on the sideline with injuries, with Maiava's appearing to be the most serious.
"He's obviously going to miss a little bit of time," coach Dennis Allen said.
The Raiders aren't being specific regarding the nature of injuries nor how long players might be out of action. Maiava left practice Saturday on crutches and with a walking boot on his left foot.
And there is this from Allen's Monday press conference from the team's website when Allen was asked about the linebacker group:
Coach Allen: “Well I still feel good about it. Obviously, it would be good if could get Miles Burris back out here and if Kaluka [Maiava] was able to be back out here, but I feel good about the linebackers that we have. I think we have a good, solid core of guys and I think not only from a depth standpoint defensively, but I think the fact that they’re going to be able to help us on special teams is a good thing.”
