Maui wins first game of doubleheader over East Bay
July 13, 2013 - Robert Collias
Na Koa Ikaika Maui ran their record to 26-13 with an easy 12-2 win over the East Bay Lumberjacks in the first game of a doubleheader just completed at Maehara Stadium.
The Lumberjacks are made up of about half local players and are here because the Vallejo Admirals did not have the money to make the trip to Maui for this six-game set.
Isaiah Kaneakua, a former Kamehameha Schools Maui standout, finished on the mound for the 'Jacks in the first game and their pitching coach for this weekend -- Barry Takahashi, the former Baldwin and Texas Christian standout and coach at St. Anthony and KSM -- will pitch in the second game, he told me as I walked in.
Maui is now 3-0 in this set, including a 16-4 pounding of the Lumberjacks on Friday behind Kalaika Kahoohalahala's big day at the plate.
Maui is currently 2 1/2 games behind San Rafael, which won the first game of its doubleheader in Hilo today, 1-0.
