Maiava and friends show Friendly Isle Hard Naks

June 27, 2013 - Robert Collias
Oakland Raiders linebacker Kaluka Maiava is a frequent visitor to his lifelong friend Cody Nakamura's Hard Naks clinic in Waikapu, but Wednesday the former Baldwin teammates joined Kai Maiava, Kaniela Tuipulotu and JoJo Dickson to Molokai for a rare opportunity for Friendly Isle athletes to experience the football workouts.

Fourteen students entering the 8th through 12th grades participated in the free clinic.

"I don't have a magical speech that's going to shoot them right to the top," said Maiava, a 2005 Baldwin High School graduate and standout at USC who played his first four years in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns. "Hopefully something we do, though, can show them that anything is possible. We're just normal guys from Hawaii who worked hard for something. We told them that, be it football, or whatever job it is you wanted to do, you can do it if you work at it."

Nakamura is the new head coach at Kamehameha Maui, Tuipulotu is a former Lahainaluna and Kahuku star who played at Arizona and Hawaii, Kai Maiava played at UCLA and Dickson was a standout at Idaho who is currently on the New York Jets roster, along with former Maui High and Lahainaluna standout Tevita Finau.

Nakamura, Kai Maiava and Dickson all prepped at Baldwin.
