'Just a tragic accident'

June 12, 2013 - Harry Eagar
In gun-very-friendly-Arizona, a father and his 4-year-old boy visit a friend. The friend has a gun "for protection" or, possibly, to amuse idle 4-year-olds.

Boy shoots dad. Dad dies. "Just a tragic accident," say police. Move along, nothing to see here.

The National Rifle Association has started a new publicity campaign that goes: "I am the NRA and I believe 'shall not be infringed' means exactly that."

More accurate would be, "I am the NRA and I don't give a damn who gets hurt."

Being in Arizona, I assume the father owned a gun for protection against illegal immigrants. After getting shot I do not think father was amused.

or even if that one had been stored prudently.

The story says the owner kept the gun for protection. It does not indicate whether the owner really needed protection or was just the typical delusional gun nut who imagines bad things but cannot see the worse thing right in front of him.

Worse thing being to leave a gun out for little kids to play with.

The four year old when he gets older will realize what he had done. Forever in his life he will know the FACT that he killed his father.

"Just a tragic accident" would not have happened if there were no guns around.
