The Two Boys Who Climbed Iao Needle Back in the 1930s

May 18, 2013 - Ray Tsuchiyama

I have heard about this fascinating story back in the 1980s, in a newspaper ad for a local bank, I think, about two Nikkei boys climbing to the top of Iao Needle on a dare, but I cannot find anything on the Web.

If anybody has any details, let me know.

My particular passion – as my Blog readers know – is to re-interpret/re-tell from the lens of 2013, about great feats of athletic ability in the past by very ordinary people, like long-distance swimming. For example, my one blog on Keo Nakama give birth to other blogs and links to Web sites on the very exclusive clubs of long-distance swimmers.

I am taking a long-awaited vacation to New York City, so I will update Maui News blog readers on the Big Apple.
