Mililani makes state championship game against MPI
May 11, 2013 - Robert Collias
Mililani was just 9-7 in the Oahu Interscholastic Association this season, but tonight at 6 p.m. the Trojans will play for their first state title against four-time state baseball winner Mid-Pacific Institute.
Mililani scored five unearned runs in the sixth inning, fueled by three Hilo errors, to beat the Vikings 8-6 in the final game of Friday's slate at Maehara Stadium in the 55th annual Wally Yonamine Foundation Division I State Championship. Through five innings, the game was tied 3-3.
Read all about the wild final two frames and all the rest of the game in today's paper.
The schedule for today starts at 9 a.m. with Iolani playing Pearl City for seventh place at 9 a.m. — the Chargers advanced to the game after winning a coin flip over Leilehua when the game was tied at 2-2 when the two-hour time limit hit, hits were even, as were errors, the criteria for the tiebreaker; Maui High and Baldwin renew acquaintances for the sixth time this season at noon for fifth place; Campbell and Hilo play for third at 3 p.m. before the championship game plays on OC Sports (cable channel 12).
Of course, check out all of our coverage in Sunday's paper.
