Thought this weekend was busy? Try wait

April 22, 2013 - Robert Collias
One of the busiest weekends, annually, of the MIL calendar just passed with the league tennis tournament, the league softball Division I and Divison II tournaments, and the individual golf crowns were decided, while regular-season play continued in judo, boys volleyball, girls water polo, the JV championship track meet was held and baseball (thankfully for the overworked Maui News sports staff) took the week off.

And an event that should be on the MIL schedule, but isn't yet — the Maui Interscholastic Surf Championships — were held at Hookipa on Saturday.

This week, the league baseball tournaments are on tap Wednesday through Saturday, the girls water polo tournament is today through Wednesday, the varsity track and field championship meet is Friday and Saturday where state team contenders Baldwin boys and Seabury Hall girls will show their stuff, and the judo championship is Saturday.

And tonight at 7 at Patsy Mink Field, the fifth meeting of the season will decide the MIL D-I softball crown between Lahainaluna and Baldwin (see second link above).

I hope I didn't forget anything, but the action heats up even more next week with the MIL boys volleyball tournaments, and an unprecedented four state tournaments will take place on the Valley Isle in a 12-day span — girls golf, boys golf, D-II softball and D-I baseball.

FYI, state girls golf will be played in Kaanapali next Tuesday and Wednesday, the first two days of the D-II state softball event at Patsy Mink Field.

Whew, makes me tired just thinking of all the fun for sports fans that is lined up.
