Illinois wins the Maui Invitational, Paul MVP
November 22, 2012 - Robert Collias
Illinois ran away from the field all week, capping a run to the EA Sports Maui Invitational title with a convincing 78-61 win over Butler.
The Illini's Brandon Paul, a third-team All-Big Ten selection a season ago, was named MVP in voting by the media after scoring 20 points in the final and 59 for the tourney.
He is joined on the first team by Butler's Rotnei Clarke, Marquette's Vander Blue, North Carolina's Reggie Bullock, Illinois' D.J. Richardson, and Chaminade's De'Andre Haskins.
Haskins was the tournament's leading scorer with 73 points in three games, including 32 in an opening-day shocker over Texas.
Illinois outscored USC, Chaminade, and Butler here by a combined score of 256-186.
